Levees
Everyone remembers where they were when Hurricane Katrina hit three years ago. Kari and I were with family, out of the country, far away, and it was almost surreal to watch the aftermath on the news.
Today, I am following via online the developments related to Hurricane Gustav as it has hit the Gulf Coast.
As a Christian, I am deeply concerned for the welfare of all peoples in that area.
As a Civil Engineer by education, I am intrigued with how levees work, as the storm surges hit the coast and the levees could be breached significantly.
CNN has a good overview of the various ways levees can fail (be breached). Water has the potential to be quite a destructive force.
